Modified Ammonium Polyphosphate and Its Application in Polypropylene Resins

Herein, a simple and environment-friendly method of coupling agent treatment APP (ammonium polyphosphate) is provided an optimum process modification via identified. The effects type, dosage, time, temperature on the ammonium polyphosphate (APP) were investigated using orthogonal experimental design. modified (KAPP) was characterized under optimal conditions Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetry (TG), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis. greatly improved water solubility, dispersibility, thermal stability KAPP; application KAPP in polypropylene (PP) investigated. flexural properties, stability, flame retardancy studied mechanical testing, thermogravimetric analysis, oxygen index, UL-94 vertical combustion. results show that KAPP-added composites have better bending properties when compared with APP-added PP composites. SEM analysis suggests surface became smoother flat; dispersion better, compatibility matrix improved, there no prominent voids gaps cross-section. A different degree improvement also observed as per LOI combustion results, wherein prepared by adding 20% achieved 27.6% passed test V-0 rating.
